FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index Up 8.0% In Q2, 2017, Up 5.6% in June And 22.8% Over 12 Months – Japan Exchange Group Up 59.1% In Last 12 Months

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index experienced a good second quarter with 20 out of the 28 publicly listed exchanges in positive territory. The Index, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of exchanges performance, saw an 8.0 per cent increase for Q2, 2017 compared to an increase of 6.5% in Q1, 2017 and a flat Q2 in 2016. The index experienced a healthy rise of 5.6% in June.

Hellenic Exchanges and Japan Exchange Group experienced strong growth in the second quarter. Hellenic Exchanges grew by 31.1 per cent in Q2, 2017, compared to a decrease of 4.2% in Q1, 2017. Japan Exchange Group share price increased 27.3 per cent in Q2, 2017, compared to a decrease of 0.7% in Q1, 2017. Dubai Financial Market's share price fell by 11.2 per cent in Q2, 2017, compared to a flat Q1, 2017. Moscow Exchange's share price decreased 11.1 per cent in Q2, 2017, compared to a decrease of 3.8% in Q1, 2017.

Commenting on the Index which closed at 42,363.88 on 30 June 2016, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and co-founder of the Index said:

"Japan Exchange Group and Warsaw Stock Exchange were way ahead of the pack when we look at 1 year performance with rises of 59.1% and 58% respectively over that period. The Warsaw Stock Exchange has a good outlook for the coming quarters, supported by the take-over of the function of WIBID and WIBOR fixing organiser by GPW Benchmark, as well as a positive market sentiment including on-going recovery on the IPO market. The bourse aims at becoming the market of choice for investors and issuers in Central and Eastern Europe by focusing on organic growth and is looking to build scale through regional cooperation."

 

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer in June by capital returns in US dollars was Japan Exchange Group with a 11.9 per cent increase in share price from 31 May 2017 to 30 June 2017.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer in June by capital returns in US dollars was South Africa's JSE with a 6.7 per cent decrease in share price from 31 May 2017 to 30 June 2017.

The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index is compiled by FTSE Group from data based on the share price performance of listed exchanges and trading platforms.
