FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index Up 1.8% In May As Intercontinental Exchange Drops London Stock Exchange Group Bid

Date 13/06/2016

Intercontinental Exchange was the best performer of the month by capital returns in US dollars with a 13 per cent rise. Multi Commodity Exchange of India with a 7.4 per cent increase and Nasdaq with a 7 per cent increase were the two next best performers.

FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was Dubai Financial Market with a 19.6 per cent decrease in share price; this was followed by the Bucharest Stock Exchange with a 14.1 per cent decrease and Japan Exchange Group with a 13.1 per cent decrease.

As the date of the UK referendum on whether to remain or leave the European Union looms, exchange chiefs are pondering the likely impact.

Shareholders of Deutsche Boerse and the London Stock Exchange Group will decide on the planned merger after the UK EU referendum on June 23.

Should Brexit occur and the UK leaves the EU, German authorities are unlikely to allow the Deutsche Boerse, London Stock Exchange Group holding company to be based in London, outside of the EU. Politicians and investment bankers would also be wary of Finanzplatz being undermined.

As it is the Deutsche Boerse, London Stock Exchange Group tie up will undoubtedly face regulatory scrutiny.

Commenting on the Index which closed at 35,281.29 on 31 May 2016, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said: “Should the Deutsche Boerse, London Stock Exchange merger, for whatever reason fail, one possible takeover bid for Deutsche Boerse or the London Stock Exchange may well come from  the CME Group. The Intercontinental Exchange could also renew its interest in the London Stock Exchange Group at the beginning of November.”
