FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index Up 1.6% In May – Four Exchanges Achieve Double-Digit Growth In Month With Japan Exchange Group Leading The Pack

The FTSE/Mondo Visione Exchanges Index increased by 1.6 per cent in May, as investors in exchanges seem to have disregarded the adage 'sell in May and go away'.

The Index closed at 40,132.66 on May 31, 2017 up from 39,519.92 on April 28, 2017. The Index did reach an all-time-high of 48,486.38 on December 6, 2007.

Share prices of 19 of the 29 listed exchanges and trading platforms on the Index, rose in May 2017.

The FTSE/Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars, was Japan Exchange Group with a 15.6 per cent increase in the share price from April 28, 2017 to May 31, 2017.

The FTSE/Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars, was India's Multi Commodity Exchange with a 17.6 per cent decrease in the share price from April 28, 2017 to May 31, 2017.

Herbie Skeete, Managing Director of Mondo Visione and co-founder of the Index said:

"In January Japan Exchange Group announced that it would be issuing JPY20bn of 10-year bonds to buy back JPY16bn of its own shares. The JPX completed its share repurchase on 18 May. Abenomics may be wearing thin but in this case, it seems to be paying a dividend."

The FTSE/Mondo Visione Exchanges Index tracks the performance of 29 publicly listed exchanges and trading platforms. The Index is regarded as an accurate barometer of market sentiment and a key indicator of exchanges' performance.
