FTSE Launch New Index For Athens Stock Exchange

Date 15/03/2001

FTSE, the international index provider, announces the creation of a new index, the FTSE/ASE SmallCap index. The index will consist of 80 stocks and is expected to go live in April 2001.

FTSE/ASE SmallCap will be part of the FTSE/ASE 20 and FTSE/ASE Mid 40 index series, which was launched in December 1999. The new index will be calculated every trading day in real time, and will be reviewed twice a year in May and November, in line with established FTSE Ground Rules.

Mark Makepeace, FTSE Chief Executive said: “FTSE’s methodology is recognised as an international standard in indexing. The addition of FTSE/ASE SmallCap to the FTSE/ASE series means that overseas and domestic investors can now trade across a range of Greek companies, using a recognised global benchmark. FTSE is proud to have collaborated with the ASE again on this project and hope to develop a FTSE/ASE All-Share umbrella index in the future.”
