CFTC Acting Chairman Sharon Brown-Hruska administered the oath of office in a ceremony attended by CFTC Commissioner Walt Lukken and senior staff. Mr. Hatfield was nominated by President Bush on October 8, 2004, and confirmed by the Senate on November 21, 2004, to a term expiring April 13, 2008.
Mr. Hatfield joins the CFTC after having served as Chief of Staff to Senator John Breaux (D-LA), Assistant Minority Whip. Before joining Senator Breaux’s staff, Mr. Hatfield served as Chief of Staff to the House Majority Whip, Tony Coelho (D-CA). In 1998, Mr. Hatfield served as Deputy Commissioner General of the U.S. Pavilion at the World’s Fair in Lisbon, Portugal.
A native of California, Mr. Hatfield received his B.A. degree in History, Summa Cum Laude, from California State University, Fresno, in 1977.
