Fourth Next Event A Success, With Euronext Confirming Commitment To Promotion Of Midcaps

Date 23/09/2004

Euronext held its fourth Next Event on September 22 and 23 in Paris, building on from the success of the first three to continue its strategy of promoting small and midcap companies.

The two-day conference gave midcaps listed on Euronext markets an opportunity to meet European fund managers and analysts specializing in midcaps one-to-one.

Next Event is now the top event for midcaps listed on Euronext. This year a full 82% of companies on hand had market capitalizations under EUR 1 billion; together these accounted for 90% of all meetings.

The event was once again a clear success, with a record 1,650 scheduled meetings bringing together over 300 European investors and 180 Belgian, Dutch, French and Portuguese companies.

Figures show a rise in European investors from outside the Euronext’s home markets, who this year together accounted for 14% of participants. Half were British. Listed companies were also out in force, up 10% on 2003. As a venue for high-level professional exchanges, the event proved its appeal for both investors and issuers, 60% and 70% of whom had already attended in 2003.

Next Event is organized by Euronext in conjunction with leading financial intermediaries including Bank Degroof, European Securities Network represented by Caixa - Banco de Investimento, Banco Espirito Santo de Investimento, Fortis Bank, Gilbert Dupont, ING Financial Markets, KBC Securities, Kempen & Co., Portzamparc Société de Bourse, Oddo Micap and SNS Securities.

The 2004 Next Event confirmed Euronext’s commitment to promoting midcap companies listed on its markets. This is part of a wider-ranging program that will see reforms including the introduction of a single regulated market, the launch of a new range of midcap indices and the creation of a new expert status for brokers active in SMEs.
