"Our indexes are comprised entirely of NYSE-listed companies, and reflect our high standards and substantial listing requirements," said Dick Grasso, NYSE chairman and CEO. "NYSE-listed companies are the world's most valued and we are excited to provide investors new tools to measure their performance."
The new NYSE indexes are segmented as follows:
- NYSE U.S. 100 IndexSM: One hundred NYSE-listed U.S. companies with the largest market capitalization.
- NYSE International 100 IndexSM: One hundred of the largest NYSE-listed non-U.S. companies measured by market capitalization, currently representing 18 countries.
- NYSE World Leaders IndexSM: A combination of the NYSE U.S. 100 and NYSE International 100 indexes. It reflects the performance of the 200 largest NYSE-listed companies of the highest quality from around the globe.
- NYSE TMT IndexSM: Top 100 companies in the technology, media and telecom sectors globally.
"These companies provide a good snapshot of the true market performance of global and domestic leaders," said Catherine R. Kinney, NYSE president and co-chief operating officer. "In fact, the group of companies included in any one of the NYSE Domestic 100, International 100 or World Leaders indexes would make up the second-largest market in the world, second only to the NYSE itself."
The indexes will be maintained according to the transparent, rules-based methodology developed by the NYSE. Index updates including current component data, watchlists, historical data and year-to-date and upcoming index changes will be available through www.nyseindexes.com which will go live on Thursday. The indexes will be re-balanced on a quarterly basis with interim component changes announced as necessary. Real-time and closing index values will be available through major market data vendors.
The NYSE U.S. 100, NYSE International 100, NYSE World Leaders and NYSE TMT are calculated and maintained by Dow Jones Indexes. The NYSE announced its agreement with Dow Jones Indexes in January of 2002. NYSE indexes will be available to be licensed as the basis for tradable products, including ETFs, to be launched in the future.
