Date 07/05/2019

IEX Group, Inc. today announced that Kara Stein, who served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from August 2013 to January 2019, has joined the Board of Directors of the Investors Exchange (IEX).

During her tenure at the Commission, Stein established a strong reputation as an advocate for transparency and investor protection.  She also spoke frequently about the potential for technology to transform our financial system for the better.

“Kara’s track record at the SEC speaks to her commitment to building a strong, resilient capital markets ecosystem that puts the interests of investors and the public first,” said IEX CEO and Co-Founder Brad Katsuyama. “We are grateful and honored for her to join the Investors Exchange Board. Between the SEC Transaction Fee Pilot and the increased transparency around the costs exchanges pose on market participants, the industry is at a turning point. Kara’s experience and insight will be invaluable in this period of positive momentum toward meaningful change that benefits investors, issuers, and brokers.”

“I look forward to helping IEX continue to improve market transparency for both public companies and investors,” said Stein. “I am excited about the company’s mission of developing cutting-edge technologies to enhance and create new standards of performance in the marketplace.”

Prior to her appointment as an SEC Commissioner, Stein was the Staff Director of the Securities, Insurance, and Investment Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. Since departing the SEC, she has joined the University of Pennsylvania School of Law as a Distinguished Policy Fellow and the Center on Innovation at the University of California Hastings School of Law as a Senior Research Fellow.
