Five Eminent Financial Services Professionals Awarded CISI Honorary Fellowship

The Board of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) is delighted to announce that five* CISI Honorary Fellowships have been awarded to the following:

  • Mark Hoban, FCSI(Hon), Chairman of Flood Re and of the International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG).
  • Prof Michael Mainelli FCCA, Chartered FCSI(Hon), FBCS, co-founder Z/Yen.
  • Frank Moxon CF, Chartered FCSI(Hon), FIMMM, FEI, Managing Director, Hoyt Moxon.
  • Richard Stockdale, Chartered FCSI(Hon)
  • Tim Timotheou, Chartered FCSI(Hon), Executive Director, Quilter Cheviot Investment Management.

Honorary Fellowships are awarded by the CISI Board to those who have made a significant positive contribution to both the financial services profession and to the CISI. Honorary Fellowship carries the designatory letters FCSI(Hon).

Sir Alan Yarrow, Chartered FCSI(Hon), CISI Chairman said: “We are delighted to award Honorary Fellowship, our highest mark of respect, to these five excellent individuals, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to both the Institute and to the profession over many years. We look forward to their continued support and guidance for many years to come.”

*BIOGRAPHIES

Mark Hoban FCSI(Hon)

Mark Hoban is Chairman of Flood Re and of IRSG, the International Regulatory Strategy Group.  He also serves on the Board of the London Stock Exchange Plc and TheCityUK and is a senior adviser to Markit, an international financial information provider.  

Mark was first elected Member of Parliament for Fareham in 2001. During his time in Parliament, he served as Minister for Employment from 2012 – 2013 and as the Financial Secretary to the Treasury from 2010–2012, where he was responsible for the Coalition Government’s financial services policy.  Prior to his election, Mark worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and its predecessor firms between 1985 and 2001. He studied Economics at the London School of Economics and is a Chartered Accountant.

Prof Michael Mainelli FCCA, Chartered FCSI(Hon), FBCS  

Michael co-founded Z/Yen in 1994, a City of London think-tank, to promote societal advance through better finance and technology, after a career as a research scientist in aerospace and cartography, then accountancy-firm partner and director of Ministry of Defence research.  A qualified accountant, securities professional, computer specialist and management consultant, educated at Harvard University and Trinity College Dublin, Michael gained his PhD at London School of Economics where he was also a Visiting Professor.   Michael is Emeritus Professor & Trustee at Gresham College where he created the London Finance initiative asking “when would we know our financial system is working?”  Michael is Alderman of Broad Street Ward in the City of London.  He is a Liveryman of Worshipful Company of World Traders and Freeman of the Watermen & Lightermen Company.

Frank Moxon CF, Chartered FCSI(Hon), FIMMM, FEI

Frank is Managing Director of Hoyt Moxon.  He has over 25 years’ experience as an adviser on financial, strategic, investor relations and corporate governance issues to companies, ranging in size from micro-cap to over £3 billion by market capitalisation, in a wide variety of industrial and commercial sectors.  A published author, Frank has lectured on corporate finance and related matters in the UK, Europe, Africa, South-East Asia and North America

Frank served on the CISI Board for nine years, from 2008 to 2017.  He is a long-standing member and past Chairman of the CISI Corporate Finance Forum and continues to be a keen supporter of and contributor to the Institute.  Frank is a liveryman and past Master of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers.

Richard Stockdale, Chartered FCSI(Hon)

Richard spent his entire banking career with LloydsTSB Bank, formerly as Middle Eastern Regional Head and latterly as CEO of Global Services and as India Country Head.  He has spoken on anti-money laundering, combatting terrorist financing and corruption at the request of the UN, IMF/World Bank, Arab Monetary Fund, Swiss Government and UAE Central Bank and as an expert trial witness for the US Dept of Justice After leaving LloydsTSB Richard established a Washington DC company offering consultancy and educational services in the above specialist subject areas.

Richard was a member of the CISI Board member for eight years, from 2009 to 2017.  He is Past President and founder member of CISI Indian National Advisory Council and long running Chairman of CISI’s Middle East Advisory Council.  Richard is based in Dubai and currently serves the Institute as an Ambassador.  

Tim Timotheou, Chartered FCSI(Hon)

Tim is Executive Director of Quilter Cheviot Investment Management.  He began his career on the banking desk of a partnership that ultimately became Neilson Milnes, becoming a member of the London Stock Exchange three years later in 1985 and an Associate Director shortly after.

In 1988 Tim joined the firm of Robert White, part of the Hill Samuel Group, starting their first office outside of Scotland in Manchester.  Having become Bell Lawrie White, Tim and the team later joined Quilter Cheviot in 1993.  Tim became a main board director in 1995 responsible for the Quilter Cheviot offices in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester until retiring from the Board in 2012.  Since 2005, Tim has concentrated on bespoke portfolio management for his long standing private client and professional relationships. These include personal, Trust and private pension portfolios, both SIPP and SSAS.

Tim is the former President and long-serving member of CISI Liverpool Regional Committee and prior to that, the Manchester Committee.  He has also worked with the CISI Educational Trust to develop a financial education programme for students in the region, leading directly to jobs in the profession.
