Over 74 million transactions were registered on Euronext’s cash markets in the first half of 2004, stable on the same period of 2003. A daily average of 585,000 transactions were completed in the year-to-date.
IPOs
There have been 12 IPOs on Euronext so far this year, including Belgacom, the biggest IPO in Europe since 2001; SES Global, the largest single offering at listing by a non-domestic share in the history of Euronext; Axalto, the first tech IPO to top €500m in Europe since 2000; and Snecma, the second largest listing on Euronext in the past two years. Those 12 IPOs represent a total amount of €6.1bn raised.
Shares
70.6 million transactions have been completed since the beginning of the year, compared to 70.3 million during the same period of last year.
Derivatives products
Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded over 438 million contracts in the first half of 2004, up 24% on the first half of 2003. This represents a year-to-date average daily volume of 3.5 million.
Equity products showed the strongest growth in the first half of 2004, trading 263 million contracts, up 28% on 2003, with Individual Equity Products up 47% on the same period. Interest Rate Products traded over 170 million futures and options contracts, up 18% on the same period in 2003. Euronext.liffe’s Commodity products continued to grow with over 3.8 million contracts traded, up 18% on 2003.
Euronext.liffe’s Eurodollar future, launched on 18 March, traded 349,773 contracts in June, with average daily volume rising to over 16,600. Open interest reached a record of 92,418 contracts on 11 June, faster than any other contract in the history of the Euronext.liffe exchanges.
Euronext.liffe Amsterdam set an open interest record during the month of June, standing at over 21 million on 17 June 2004.
