Firms In Thai Alternative Market Almost Doubled Net Profits Y-O-Y

The 66 firms on the Market for Alternative Investment (mai) have reported total net profits of THB1.02 billion (approx. USD31.05 million) in Q1/2011, an 89.28% surge over Q1/2010, while total sales reached THB15.91 billion (approx. USD483.35 million), a 22.99% rise over Q1/2010. Fifty-four companies, or 82% of mai-listed firms, enjoyed net profits.

“Firms on mai, which are small to medium-sized companies, showed outstanding performance and mostly reported sales growth especially those firms involved in energy and petrochemicals which had increases in both sales volume and sales price. Gross profit margin rose from 22.11% to 23.28%. This growing performance resulted in an increase in mai-listed firms’ total net profits in Q1/2011 that was as high as 89.28% over the same period last year,” revealed mai President Chanitr Charnchainarong.

Seven mai-listed firms managed to boost sales making an increase in profit of more than 100%: Asia Green Energy PCL (AGE), Energy Earth PCL (EARTH), Pylon PCL (PYLON), Thai Nondestructive Testing PCL (TNDT), Three Sixty Five PCL (TSF), Unimit Engineering PCL (UEC), and Yuasa Battery (Thailand) PCL (YUASA).

Meanwhile, eight firms reversed from net losses to net profits over the same period last year. Most were operating financial services, media and advertising and public relations businesses. They were ACAP Advisory PCL (ACAP), Adamas Incorporation PCL (ADAM), CM Organizer PCL (CMO), Evolution Capital PCL (E), Focus Development and Construction PCL (FOCUS), Multibax PCL (MBAX), Pico Thailand PCL (PICO),and TRC Construction PCL (TRC).

Seven mai-listed firms have made profits every quarter for five consecutive years: Business Online PCL (BOL), Goldfine Manufacturers PCL (GFM), Interlink Communication PCL (ILINK), Star Sanitaryware PCL (STAR), Thai Nakarin Hospital PCL (TNH), Thai Plaspac PCL (TPAC), and Unimit Engineering PCL (UEC).

At present, there are 67 firms listed on mai. As of May 23, 2011, the mai Index closed at 288.53, with a total market capitalization of THB74.20 billion (approx. USD2.25 billion).
