Finansinspektionen (FI) iSwedish Financial Supervisory Authority Strengthens Consumer Protection

Date 18/02/2014

Finansinspektionen (FI) is starting up a new operational section – Consumer Protection. The purpose is to gain a clearer focus on consumer protection matters and hence strengthen the position of consumers on the financial market.

FI is expanding and a series of new European regulations are under way, while at the same time FI has been given new supervisory duties. In order to continue maintaining a focus on consumer protection matters, FI is creating a new operational section: Consumer protection. Malin Omberg will head the section. She was formerly head of the Economic Analysis Office at FI.

“We will be focusing on one of FI’s primary tasks – safeguarding sound consumer protection on the financial market. By creating a separate operational section for consumer protection, we can hopefully clarify and highlight these issues even better,” says Malin Omberg, head of Consumer Protection at FI.

The new operational section will be in place on 1 April. A total of around 85 people will work in Consumer Protection.
