Federation of European Securities Exchanges Welcomes Expressions Of Interest For The Position Of Its Secretary General

Date 24/11/2004

FESE herewith announces that it welcomes expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered as a suitable candidate for the position of FESE Secretary General or from persons wishing to nominate other candidates.

FESE is the Brussels-based trade association of Europe’s regulated financial market organizations. Its core business is to be the eyes, ears and voice of the Federation’s Members towards the European Union institutions, to CESR and, as the case may be, to other financial market authorities. FESE maintains a Secretariat in Brussels. The Secretary General would be expected to live in and work from Brussels.

Candidates, preferably aged between 40 and 55, should have a deep knowledge of, and experience with, financial markets in Europe. Intimate experience in or with regulated financial markets is a clear advantage. Hands-on experience of working with or within the European Union Institutions and CESR will equally be considered as an advantage.

Suitable candidates will have appropriate background and character so as to enable them to function effectively vis-à-vis the European Union Institutions and Europe’s Regulators, both at the most senior and at official levels.

The position offered is extremely challenging: the Financial Services Action Plan of the European Union needs to be implemented in the years to come and a list of new policy and legislation proposals at European Union level will also require the utmost attention.

The FESE Secretary General is the face and voice of the Member organizations in Brussels. He or she will be challenged to manoeuvre between the varied interests of the Membership and the complexity of EU legislation in a rapidly changing environment. The Secretary General reports to the FESE President and is fully accountable to the Membership Assembly.

As a matter of principle, there is no nationality requirement for the position but preference may be given to EU nationals.

Although FESE has only English as a working language (absolute fluency is expected), additional European languages would be appreciated.

The position will require a commitment in principle of no less than 3 years. Candidates should be fully available no later than 1st July 2005. Extensive travel is part of the job.

The remuneration and other employment conditions are fully in line with the weight and seniority of the position.

The Federation’s Search and Selection Committee will select a short list out of candidates submitted. Candidates on the short list will be invited for one or more meetings with the Committee.

Requests for further information, expressions of interest and applications including a CV are to be sent before 1st January 2005 to the current Secretary General, Mr. Paul Arlman, at his private e-mail address (paul@arlman.com) and will be treated in the strictest confidence.
