September Highlights:
- Trading volumes on ECX during September reached 262 Mt, the third highest monthly total, up 163% on the same month last year.
- Daily volumes in EUA and CER futures and options averaged at 12 Mt (12,039 lots).
- The benchmark Dec’08 EUA price dropped nearly €3 during the month to settle at €22.35 and saw its widest intra-day trading range of €1.29 on 30 September.
- The CER-EUA spread remained around €4 for most of the month. We have included two additional charts in this report, one showing the CER-EUA price spread, the other Dec’08 EUAs versus Brent Crude Oil.
- Albert de Haan, who has been a key part of the ECX team since inception, has moved across to work with our holding company Climate Exchange plc on new initiatives. ECX is very grateful for Albert’s contribution to the emissions market and wish him well in his new role.
