March 2009 Highlights:
- Volumes during March set a second consecutive monthly record, with a total of 539,002 contracts changing hands – the equivalent of half the total traded volume in 2007. Open interest across all products surpassed 500,000 contracts (500 Mt).
- Screen liquidity increased during March with volumes reaching a record daily average of 8,297 contracts, of which 72% was in the Dec09 EUA futures. The largest screen-traded daily volume to date was recorded on 25th March with 12,607 contracts.
- March 09 EUA and CER futures contracts expired on 30th March and over 14 Mt tonnes were brought to physical delivery.
- The new EUA and CER Daily Futures contracts – launched March 13th – saw 976,000 tonnes trade in the first two weeks with successful deliveries. Although the Seller has until T+2 to deliver to the Buyer, all deliveries to date have been completed by noon T+1.
- ICE Futures Europe & ECX welcome four new members, bringing the total membership of ECX to 100: Nomura International plc, Liquid Capital Securities, Vattenfall and Total Global Steel.
