Euronext.liffe Trades 55.4 Million Contracts In April, Up 25% From April 2001

Euronext.liffe, the derivatives business of Euronext, traded a total of 55.4 million futures and options contracts during the month of April. Average daily volume amounted to over 2.6 million contracts, which represents an underlying nominal value of €582 billion. Year-to-date Euronext.liffe's volume of 237 million is up 29% on the same period in 2001. Total open interest stood at 105 million contracts at the close of trading on 30 April.

Euronext.liffe's equity products saw the strongest growth, with year-to-date volume of 176 million contracts, up 50% on 2001. Short-term interest rate products grew 11% trading 55 million contracts year-to-date and Commodity products grew by 17% trading 1.8 million contracts.
