Euronext.liffe - €133 Billion Worth Of Business Year-To-Date

Euronext.liffe, the derivatives business of Euronext, has traded a total of 532 million contracts from January to end September 2002, up 20% on the same period last year. In terms of nominal value of business, Euronext.liffe has traded €133 billion worth of business year-to-date, more than double its nearest electronic competitor.

In September 2002 Euronext.liffe traded 58.7 million futures and options contracts with an average daily volume of 2.8 million contracts, representing an underlying nominal average daily value of €884 billion.

Euribor futures and options showed high volumes: a total of 10.4 million futures and 4.4 million options were traded.

Individual equity options were the most heavily traded contracts during September: a total of 22.2 million contracts were traded. The FTSE 100 Index futures showed growth of 83% on last month, trading 2.4 million contracts in September 2002, while the CAC 40 index futures grew by 32% month on month, trading 2.7 million contracts in September.

Maintaining its position as the world's largest equity derivatives exchange, Euronext.liffe traded 38.1 million equity product derivatives in September 2002 and a total of 383 million, year-to-date, an increase of 29% on the same period last year.

Total open interest stood at 96 million contracts at the close of trading on 30 September 2002.
