Euronext: Refinement Of Selection Rules BEL20 Index And BEL Mid Index

Date 24/08/2005

Euronext Indices announces that the selection rules for the BEL20 index are refined. These selection rules maintain the principle of a BEL20 company having a minimum level of free float market capitalisation, which principle is now refined by introducing a threshold of specified entry and exit levels. The entry level is defined as a minimal free float market capitalisation for non index constituents of 300,000 times the level of the index at year end, while the exit level for companies in the index is defined as such capitalisation of 200,000 times that index level.

As for the BEL Mid index, rules are changed so as to prevent selection overlaps with the BEL20 Index.

These measures come in place of the transitional rules announced last December. These transitional rules followed market comments on the introduction of minimum size requirements for BEL20 companies. It was recognized that further refinements as introduced now would serve in improving both the tradability as well as the stability of the BEL20 Index.

Euronext is confident that these measures will contribute to the development of the Brussels market.
