Euronext Paris Derivatives Markets Second Best Month Ever

The derivatives markets of Euronext Paris had their second best month ever in terms both of the number of futures and options traded, which came to 27,296,604, and of open interest, which stood at 42,676,995 lots at month end. Trading in the first six months showed a rise of 14.6% from the same period of last year to reach nearly 146 million lots (more precisely, 145,780,346).

Trading in index and equity derivatives reached a new high of 25.6 million, beating the previous record of March 2001 by 6%. Trends for short and long-term equity options were particularly strong, with earlier records beaten by 11% and 63%, respectively.

Turning to fixed-income derivatives, 1.686 million lots were traded, with the daily average down 21.5% from the previous month. Trading and open interest in the Euro 5-year future has headed up since the introduction of market making on the contract in May.

Finally, in commodities, daily average trading showed a rise of 11.6% from the previous month, and month-end open interest was up 30.9%.
