Trading in index and equity derivatives reached a new high of 25.6 million, beating the previous record of March 2001 by 6%. Trends for short and long-term equity options were particularly strong, with earlier records beaten by 11% and 63%, respectively.
Turning to fixed-income derivatives, 1.686 million lots were traded, with the daily average down 21.5% from the previous month. Trading and open interest in the Euro 5-year future has headed up since the introduction of market making on the contract in May.
Finally, in commodities, daily average trading showed a rise of 11.6% from the previous month, and month-end open interest was up 30.9%.
