Euronext Paris Derivatives Markets - 36.1 Million Contracts Traded In November 2001, +72.7% On November 2000

Altogether 36,103,949 futures and options contracts changed hands on Euronext Paris derivatives markets in November 2001, for a daily average 72.7% higher than in November 2000.

This set the total for the first eleven months of the year at 305 million contracts, or 39% more than the 219 million traded in the same period of 2000. Since the beginning of the year, an average 1,298,123 futures and options have been traded each day.

At the end of November, total open interest was 77,394,877 lots, or 15.7% above the figure for October.

Short and long-term equity options, as well as options on the CAC40 index future, reached new highs for open interest during the month.

In fixed-income derivatives, 46,704 futures were traded, with open interest totalling 39,892 lots at month end.

Average daily trading in commodity contracts was up 19.1% from November 2000, at an average 981 contracts. End of month open interest in milling-wheat futures reached a record high. Activity in commodity contracts is up 41.5% since the beginning of the year.
