Euronext N.V. Key Indicators - Derivatives Volumes Up - Strong Rise Cash Markets Activity In September

Equity Products - Trade Value Sharply Up In September

Shares traded through Euronext NV orderbooks totalled EUR 151 billion in September, showing a 32.4% increase on the previous month activity. From September 2000 to September 2001, the daily average for the month was up 6.3%, from EUR 7.10 billion to EUR 7.55 billion.

In the nine months to 30 September, daily trading on Euronext has averaged EUR 6.76 billion, up from EUR 6.62 billion in 2000, or a 2.1% rise.

Trades in cash products through Euronext NV market systems totalled 86,155,667 since the beginning of the year to be compared with 97,895,307 in the first nine months of 2000.

On NextTrack, the compartment dedicated to exchange-traded funds, trading showed a strong rise from a daily average of EUR 77.8 million in August to EUR 93.6 million in September. NextTrack was launched on 9 January 2001 and now counts 25 Trackers.

The Euronext 100 blue-chip index was down 12.6% in September and the Next 150 index lost 20.3%. From the beginning of the year, the Euronext 100 fell 28.8%, and the Next 150 down 34.1%.

Euronext's regulated markets have welcomed 33 new listings in the first nine months of the year. At September 30, capitalisation of the 1,574 companies listed on Euronext markets totals EUR 1,790 billion.

Derivatives - Trading up 54.7% from previous month

On Euronext derivatives markets, trading rose by 54.7% from August 2001, as 43.4 million futures and options changed hands. Trading in equity and index options rose steeply in September, with the daily average in equity options up 78.7% and up 82.3% in index options.

The total for the first nine months of 2001 was 283.92 million futures and options, 13.5% more than the 250.14 million traded in the same period of 2000.
