Since January 2001, daily trading on Euronext has averaged EUR 6.67 billion, up from EUR 6.57 billion in 2000, or a 1.6% rise.
Trades in equity products through Euronext NV market systems have totalled 75,126,657 since the beginning of the year to be compared with 87,325,307 in the eight first months of 2000.
On NextTrack, the compartment dedicated to exchange-traded funds, trading showed a seasonal decline from a daily average of EUR 97.6 million in July to EUR 77.8 million in August. NextTrack was launched on 9 January 2001 and now counts 14 Tracker funds.
Euronext 100 blue chip index was down 6.6% in August and the Next 150 index eased 3.9%. Since the beginning of this year, the Euronext 100 has shown a decrease of 18.5%, with the Next 150 down 17.3%.
Since January, Euronext's regulated markets have welcomed 30 new listings. Capitalisation of the 1,583 companies listed on Euronext markets totalled EUR 2,055 billion.
Derivatives
On Euronext derivatives markets, trading rose by 31.5% in August 2001 compared to August 2000, 28.06 million futures and options changed hands. Trading in index and equity options rose steeply in August, with equity options up 56.4% and index options up 58.3%.
The total for the first eight months of 2001 was 240.654 million futures and options, 8% more than the 222.782 million traded in the same period of 2000.
Euronext N.V., the first pan-European exchange was created in September 2000 by the merger of the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris exchanges. Euronext N.V. has itself been listed on Euronext Paris, since July 6, 2001.
