Euronext Introduces Options On Pig Futures

On 24 November 2000, Euronext Amsterdam will be introducing options on pig futures contracts. These options can be used as insurance against unfavourable price fluctuations or as an investment instrument to anticipate unexpected price movements in the pig market.

In addition to pig futures contracts, futures on piglets, eggs and potatoes are also traded on Euronext Amsterdam’s commodity markets. Euronext Amsterdam also lists options on potato futures.

Euronext was created on 22 September 2000 by the merger of the exchanges in Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, and is the world’s first fully integrated market for shares, bonds and derivatives.

  • Minimum premium interval: 0.2 euro cents
  • Exercise price interval: 5 euro cents
  • Trading hours: 10.00 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.
  • Contract months: The first four months of the pig futures contract, with a new contract month being listed on the first day of trading after the expiration date of the expiring month
  • Expiration date: Third Friday of the expiration month
  • Exercise prices: For both call options and put options: At least two in-the-money series , At least two out-of-the-money series
  • Position limit: None
  • Exercise limit: None
  • Margin percentage for members of the public: 10 %
This option class will be traded in the floor-broker specialist system. The AAT options trading rules apply to trading in this class.

Delivery of the underlying future owing to exercising and assignment will be settled via Euronext Amsterdam Clearing & Depository N.V. on the trading day following the day on which the option is exercised, in accordance with the clearing rules.

The exchange fee payable for this option class is ? 3.50 (? 2.40 on opening and ? 1.10 on closing). The fee for seatholders trading for their own account is ? 1.00 (round turn).
