Euronext Introduces Futures On Blue Chips

Date 26/10/2000

As of 28 November 2000, Euronext Amsterdam’s derivatives markets will list futures on individual equities, subject to approval by the Securities Board of the Netherlands (Stichting Toezicht Effectenverkeer). Futures will be available on shares in ABN Amro, Aegon, ING, Ahold, Philips, KPN, Royal Dutch and Unilever. Each contract has an underlying value of 100 shares.

Euronext also intends to introduce futures for foreign shares on which options are listed at Euronext Amsterdam. This will probably be done in several months’ time.

The introduction of share futures will strengthen liquidity in the underlying equities and further expand Euronext’s attractive range of financial instruments. In addition to share futures, Euronext Amsterdam’s derivatives markets also list futures on agricultural commodities, share indices and foreign currencies.
