Euronext Included In Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index

Euronext, the first pan-European stock exchange, is to become a component stock of the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX1) with effect from 20 September 2004.

The DJ STOXX Sustainability index is made up of 167 stocks from 12 countries, representing Europe's leading sustainability-driven companies.

Inclusion rewards a dedication to social responsibility that places Euronext equal first among European market operators in terms of the criteria for index.

Euronext is already represented in the ASPI (Advanced Sustainable Performance Indices2) Eurozone index. Since August 2003, it has also been monitored and rated by the Vigeo3 agency on the basis of social and environmental criteria.

Background

  1. Launched in 2001, the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index tracks the 20% of the companies in the pan-European Dow Jones STOXX 600 index with the best performances in terms of sustainability. Jointly developed by Dow Jones Indexes, STOXX Limited and SAM Group, it provides reliable guidance for the management of responsible-investment portfolios in Europe.

Launched in 2001 by accounting firm IEM Finance and the Vigeo rating agency, the ASPI (Advanced Sustainable Performance Indices) Eurozone index is made up of 120 European companies selected on the basis of commitment to the community and policies in areas including relationships with customers and suppliers, health, safety, the environment, human resources and compliance with international labour standards.
  3. Founded in July 2002 and headed by former union leader Nicole Notat, Vigeo is an independent agency specialized in the rating and assessment of corporate responsibility.
