Euronext Disseminates Its First Indices: Euronext 100 And Next 150

Date 03/10/2000

EURONEXT, the first European exchange, disseminates its first indices, EURONEXT 100 and NEXT 150.

The EURONEXT 100 and the NEXT 150 are the indices representing EURONEXT’s blue chip segment. The EURONEXT 100 and the NEXT 150 will not replace the existing national indices.

The EURONEXT 100 consists of the largest EURONEXT stocks by size (market capitalisation) and liquidity. NEXT 150 will include the biggest stocks immediately following the components of the EURONEXT 100.

Both indices are market capitalisation weighted based on the last trade prices of stocks. Both are published continuously. Base value of the indices is 1000 as at 31/12/99. Indices components will be reviewed on the last trading day in February, May, August and November and modifications will be effective two months afterwards.

A weighting ceiling of 10% is applied to stocks weighting above this percentage at the time of the quarterly review. For the EURONEXT 100, non constituents can automatically enter the index at the time of the review when they rank in position 1 to 80 inclusive. For NEXT 150 non constituents will have to rank in position 1-120.

Current constituents of the EURONEXT 100 will be automatically deleted should they fall below position 120 inclusive. A current constituent stock that fails on the liquidity test on two consecutive reviews is deleted from the EURONEXT 100 index. For NEXT 150 constituents will be automatically deleted should they fall below position 180 inclusive.

A total return version of EURONEXT 100 and NEXT 150 will be calculated and published following the official close of business each day.

Announced in March 2000, EURONEXT is the first fully integrated cross-border single currency stock, derivatives and commodities market. The purpose of EURONEXT 100 and NEXT 150 indices is to reflect its new market segmentation.

As of August 31, EURONEXT lists 1,861 companies representing a total market cap of Euros 2,691 billion and a total annual value of turnover amounting to Euros 1,099 billion.
