Euronext Paris markets traded a total of 25,131,542 futures and options in May, the second highest monthly figure ever. Open interest rose 28% from the end of April to close the month at a record high of 48,783,801 lots.
Over 22.7 million equity and index derivatives were traded during the month, and the number of long-term equity options reached an all-time high of over 2 million.
Turning to fixed income derivatives, 2.310 million Euro Notional contracts were traded, representing a decline of 26% from the previous month, but open interest rose a vigorous 75.4%. Following the introduction of market making for the Euro 5-year future in mid May, daily trading has averaged over 4,000 lots.
Finally, in commodities, trading in the maize future reached a record daily average of 287 contracts.
