Euronext: Daily Turnover In Shares Down 0.4% In February. Strong Growth Of Nexttrack Activity

Share trading through Euronext NV orderbooks averaged €6.36 billion per day in February 2002, down slightly (0.4%) from the previous month. Total trading in February 2002 was €127.2 billion. Daily average trading was €7.18 billion in February 2001 and €6.59 billion over the whole year 2001.

Trades in equity products through Euronext's market systems totalled 8,137,396 in February 2002, compared with 9,155,248 in February 2001.

On NextTrack, the market segment dedicated to exchange-traded funds, daily trading averaged €122.5 million in February 2002, compared with €98 million in the previous month, a rise of 25%. Globally, activity on NextTrack increased by 258% from February 2001. NextTrack was launched on 9 January 2001 and now counts 50 Tracker funds.

The Euronext 100 blue chip index was down 0.7% in February and the Next 150 index was down 0.1%.

As of 28 February 2002, the market capitalisation of the 1,587 companies listed on Euronext markets totalled EUR 2,077 billion.
