Euronext Brussels Trading Statistics April 2001

The BEL20® fluctuated in a 200 points band to end the month with a slight gain of 0.13% at 2,842.13 points. On the broader market, the BAS Price index and the BAS Return index increased by 0.37% and 0.66% respectively.

On 30 April 2001, the market capitalisation of domestic stocks listed on Euronext Brussels amounted to 167.9 billion EUR. The five biggest market capitalisations were Fortis B (21.36 billion EUR), Dexia (17.35 billion EUR), Electrabel (13.46 billion EUR), Interbrew (12.82 billion EUR) and KBC (12.50 billion EUR). Deficom group belonged to the list of best stock movers (+39.71%) followed by Real Software (+39.08%), Mosane VVPR (+31.43%) and Neuhaus (29.17%).

In April the total turnover amounted to 3.25 billion EUR, corresponding to 187,222,194 shares traded. The highest turnover was reached on 23 April when 224.39 million EUR was traded. The average daily turnover of April reached 170.82 million EUR. In April, the total turnover for warrants equalled 35.35 million EUR or 108,173,538 warrants traded.

Last month, the top 5 most negotiated shares were Fortis B (693.52 million EUR), Dexia (361.35 million EUR), Electrabel (269.46 million EUR), Delhaize (262.99 million EUR) and Interbrew (220.42 million EUR).

In April two new companies were introduced on Euronext Brussels: on April 4, Almancora was listed on the fixing segment and on April 17, Global Graphics was listed on the continuous segment.

The volume of Euronext Brussels Derivatives Market totalled 246,392 traded contracts, a decrease of 79.9% compared to March. Since the beginning of the year 2,624,292 contracts were traded. Compared to last month, the equity options on Delhaize (3.752 traded contracts, +70.9%), Interbrew (2.404 traded contracts, +71.6%) and Real Software (910 traded contracts, +2.1%) increased their volumes. Compared to last year, the volumes of the equity options on Union Minière, Delhaize and Dexia increased by respectively 110%, 88% and 33.1%.
