Euronext Brussels: Monthly Turnover Of the Cash Market Rose By 33%

In March turnover rose by 33% to reach 5,17 Billion EUR, corresponding to 233,901,111 shares traded. The highest daily turnover was reached on 14 March when 585.6 million EUR was traded bringing the average daily turnover of March to 235 million EUR, representing a 21.15% increase, compared to February (194 million EUR). In March, the total turnover for warrants equalled 42.03 million EUR or 112,487,833 shares traded.

Fortis was the most negotiated share (1,343.11 million EUR), followed by Dexia (608.37 million EUR), GBL (576.58 million EUR), Electrabel (383.7 million EUR) and Interbrew (284 million EUR).

The BEL20Ò fell to 2,591.59 points (22/03) but recovered to end at 2,838.41. The other indices followed this trend and had to concede more or less 5% (BAS Price -5.56%, Mid cap -5.63% and Small Cap -4.85%). The stocks UCO Textiles (+23.70%), Ibel (+21.48%) and Miko (+12.45%) succeded in counteracting this trend.

On 30 March 2001, the market capitalisation of domestic stocks listed on Euronext Brussels amounted to 168.93 billion EUR. The five biggest market capitalisations were Fortis (21.91 billion EUR), Dexia (16.30 billion EUR), Electrabel (13.38 billion EUR), KBC (13.23 billion EUR) and Interbrew (12.39 billion EUR).

On March 12, the biotechnology fund Biotech was introduced on the Double Fixing Segment of Euronext Brussels.
