Eurex Turns Over 74.5 Million Contracts In November - 949 Million Contracts Traded And Cleared In 2003 - 27 Percent Increase, Year On Year - Eurex Bonds Shows 37 Percent Growth

Eurex, the international derivatives market, traded and cleared 74.5 million contracts in November. Eurex market participants connected to Eurex worldwide from over 700 locations have turned over a total of 949 million contracts in 2003 to date, a 27 percent increase over the previous year's January to November volume and/or 202 million contracts higher, year on year.

A total of 39 million contracts in fixed-income products were traded and cleared on Eurex in November. Turnover in the Euro-Bund future, at 16.5 million contracts, was about 20 percent higher than in November 2002. In the Euro-Bobl future, volume for the month was 19 percent higher than the year before (8.8 million contracts), rising to 10.5 million contracts. Volume in the Euro-Schatz future, with 8.5 million contracts traded, was 9 percent higher than in November 2002 (7.7 million contracts).

In equity-based derivatives, 35.5 million contracts were traded in November. The total comprises 19.7 million contracts in the equity-index derivatives segment and 15.8 million contracts in the equity options segment. The turnover in equity-index derivatives was 15 percent higher, year on year. The leading contract among the equity-index derivatives in November was again the futures contract on the DJ Euro STOXX 50 index, with 7.6 million contracts traded, ahead of the option on the DJ Euro STOXX 50 index (5.3 million contracts). The strongest contract among the equity options at Eurex in November was the option on Allianz with some 2.4 million contracts traded, ahead of the option on Munich Re with volume of 2 million contracts and the option on SAP, with 1.1 million contracts traded.

In the equity options segment, trading in Dutch and French equity options showed strong growth again in November: Turnover in Dutch options, with 547,000 contracts traded, was 78 percent higher than in November 2002 on the world's leading equity options exchange. In the French equity options at Eurex, with 123,000 contracts traded, volume was even about five times higher than the year before.

Eurex Bonds, the electronic trading platform that rounds out the Eurex offerings in the fixed-income segment, turned over 14.5 billion euros (single counting) in November. Eurex Bonds has turned over a total of 170 billion euros in 2003 to date, which is about 37 percent higher, year on year, than in 2002.
