More than 32 million contracts were traded in the capital market products segment at Eurex in May. A total of 14.6 million contracts changed hands in the Bund future. In the Bobl future, Eurex topped the May 2000 volume by 29 percent, with some 7.6 million contracts traded. In the Schatz futures, turnover was 71 percent higher than last year, with about 7.5 million contracts traded.
In the stock options segment, Eurex posted its third consecutive record in monthly volume with over 13 million contracts traded in May; this figure is 38 percent higher than in May one year ago. In the international stock options, trading was especially active in options on Nokia, with over 1.2 million contracts in volume, beating the previous Eurex record set in April 2001 and more than nine times the number traded in May 2000. Eurex is continuing to expand its position as the leading platform for international stock options with steady gains in this segment. Eurex also achieved very good results in the index products with 8.4 million contracts traded in May. In derivatives on the DAX, turnover came to roughly 4.4 million contracts. In the derivatives on the Dow Jones Euro-STOXX 50, Eurex turned over 2.9 million contracts in May, comprising 1.7 million futures and 1.2 million options. Compared with the volumes posted in May 2000, turnover was 47 percent higher in the option and 95 percent higher in the future.
