EUR 477 Billion in Turnover on the German Stock Exchanges

A total of EUR476.67 billion in turnover was posted in equities, warrants and fixed income securities on the German stock exchanges in March. This corresponds to an increase of about 17 percent against the previous month and a decline of about of about 14 percent from the March 1998 figure.
The order-book statistics of Deutsche Börse, which are based on single counting of all transactions posted in the order book of Xetra and the trading floor, show total equities turnover of EUR 71.96 billion for all German stock exchanges in March. This is about 26 percent higher than the previous month's total. Trading in Xetras® accounted for about 68 percent (EUR48.7 billion) of all equities turnover, and the trading floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, for another 20 percent (EUR 14 billion). A volume of EUR65.19 billion was traded in German equities in March. About 74 percent of this volume, or EUR48.49 billion, was traded through Xetras®. Trading on the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange accounted for another 17 percent (EUR10.94 billion). Xetras® further expanded its position in the DAX blue chips. With a share of more than 84 percent (EUR45.78 billion) of the order-book turnover, it set a new record on a monthly basis.
