ESMA Call Experts On Commodity Derivatives To Join Consultative Industry Group

Date 25/01/2021

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s securities markets regulator, has today published a call for candidates to renew a Consultative Working Group (CWG) for the ESMA’s Commodity Derivatives Task Force (CDTF). Interested experts are asked to send their application to ESMA by 7 March 2021.

The CDTF-CWG is mainly expected to advise the CDTF on technical standards and other guidance in relation to relevant legislative provisions within the area of competence of the CDTF. It is also expected to assist the Task Force in assessing the potential impact of proposed technical standards and guidelines.

The CDTF undertakes ESMA’s work relating to commodity derivatives markets. In terms of markets covered, the following ones form part of the work of the CDTF: energy (electricity, gas, oil), agricultural and soft commodities, and others, such as freight. In terms of products, the whole range of derivative instruments, ranging from traditional futures to exotic ones, are within the remit of the CDTF.

The CDTF is responsible for preparing ESMA technical standards, opinions, guidelines, Q&As and other guidance related to the implementation of the MiFID II framework. It is also tasked with preparing advice to the European Commission and to other ESMA’s groups on commodity derivatives related matters.
