Equity Trading In 2005 Exceeded The Trading Posted In 2005 By 33% Trading Volumes On The Markets Run By BME Hit A Record High In 2005

Equities

In December trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 59.80 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 19%. There have been 1.33 million operations, 15% up year on year.

In 2005 the accumulated value of share trading hit € 848.20 bn, up 33% on the whole year 2004. The figure represents a historical record for the stock exchange.

In December trading on Latibex hit a monthly record high, at € 63 million, posting a 114% increase over the same month in 2004. The number of trades increased 85%.

The accumulated value of trading on Latibex for the year 2005 reached 556 million euros, 52% up on the previous year. The figure represents a historical record for this market.

The return on the IBEX 35 index in December was 1.67 %. The return on the IBEX 35 from January was 18.20 %, while that on the IBEX 35 with dividends was 21.98 %. The annual returns on the IBEX MEDIUM CAP AND IBEX SMALL CAP INDEX were 37.11% and 42.49% respectively. The annual return on the FTSE Latibex Top was 77.87%.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volume in December on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 131 million for 24,811 trades, which represents a 11.5% increase over the same month in 2004. Accumulated trading volume set an annual record high in 2005 at € 2.2 bn, 16% up on 2004 .

Futures and options

Futures and options trading on MEFF in December 2005 came in at 6.502 million contracts, 44% up on December 2004. Trading in stock futures grew by 60%, at 4.33 million contracts.

Annual trading volume in MEFF was 40.2 million contracts, 40% up on 2004. Trading in stock futures and IBEX Futures hit annual record highs, at 18.8 million contracts - 57% up on 2004 and 6.1 million contracts - 9% up on 2004 respectively. It is also worth noting the trading posted in IBEX 35 Options, at 4.4 million contracts - 48% up on 2004 - and stock options (+33% up on 2004).

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in 2005 reached € 872.29 bn, a 54% increase compared to 2004. In December, the value of trading was € 65.30 bn, 24.7% up on the same month 2004.

The assets which posted the greatest growth in 2005 were Pagarés (bonds) at €404.37 bn - 41% up on the year – and Securitisation Bonds, whose trading volume reached € 310.84 bn (+ 82.7% up on 2004).

New issues in 2005 came in at € 411.78 bn, 25.4% up on 2004. In December the accumulated volume of new issues was € 41.74 bn, a similar figure to that posted in December 2004.

The outstanding balance at the end of December was € 442.41 bn, 43.6% up on the same period in 2004. The value of the net capital raised by the market in 2005 was € 134.39 bn, 21.8% up on 2004.

SENAF

Trading volume on SENAF in 2005 was € 231.05 bn, which makes up for a 65% share of the domestic trading platforms. In December the value of trading was € € 14.37 bn.
