Equities Turnover In February 10 Percent Up Year-On-Year - €297 Billion In Turnover On German Stock Exchanges In February - 10 Percent More Transactions On Xetra

The German stock exchanges generated an equities turnover based on the order book statistics, which show all transactions in the order book of Xetra and broker-supported trading on the floor in single counting, of €83.9 billion in February - an increase of 10 percent year-on-year (February 2004: €76.4 billion). German equities accounted for €81.1 billion of this total, with foreign equities comprising €2.8 billion.

Based on the aggregate statistics, a total volume of €296.7 billion was traded on all German stock exchanges in February - a rise of one percent year-on-year (February 2004: € 294 billion). This total included €233.2 billion in equities, warrants and exchange traded funds, as well as €63.5 billion in fixed-income securities.

In February, around 97 percent of transactions with German equities were executed on Xetra and on the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FWB). In foreign equities, 80 percent were traded on Xetra and the floor of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. 6.5 million transactions were executed on Xetra in February - some 10 percent more year-on-year (February 2004: 5.9 million).

According to the Xetra liquidity measure (XLM), Siemens was the most liquid DAX® blue chip in February with 4 bp for an order volume of €100,000. Puma was the most liquid MDAX® stock with 17 bp. The most liquid equity-based ETF was the Deutsche Bank DAX DVG with 3 bp. The most liquid foreign stock was Royal Dutch with 6 bp. XLM is a measure of liquidity in electronic securities trading based on the implicit transaction costs and is calculated for securities in continuous trading in basis points (1 bp = 0.01 percent) for a roundtrip in the Xetra order book.

Deutsche Telekom was the highest-turnover DAX stock on Xetra in February with €7.5 billion. Puma was the top MDAX stock with €1 billion while EM TV led the SDAX® stock with €89 million and T-Online headed the TecDAX® with 600.7 million. At €1.2 billion, the Deutsche Bank DAX DVG was the exchange traded fund with the largest turnover in February.
