On 31 October 2001, Archstone Communities and Charles E. Smith Residential Realty have completed their merger, creating Archstone-Smith Trust.

Archstone-Smith will continue to be included in the EPRA/NAREIT Global Real Estate index and its sub-indices.

The number of shares included in the index before the merger was 121,380,000 for Archstone and 25,343,000 for Charles E. Smith. For each share of Smith Residential, the shareholder will receive 1,975 shares Archstone-Smith. The new number of shares Archstone-Smith included in the index will therefore be set at 171,432,425, effective Friday 2 November 2001.

The Free Float factor of Archstone-Smith will be 100%.

The NAREIT/EPRA Global Real Estate Index is comprised jointly by the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trustsâ (NAREIT) located in Washington, DC, USA and the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Members are real estate investment trusts (REITs) and other businesses that own, operate and finance income-producing real estate, as well as those firms and individuals who advise, study and service those businesses.

The European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) is a non-profit association primarily focused on promoting the European quoted real estate sector. Members are real estate companies, investment banks, pension funds, lawyers, accountants and business schools.

The EPRA/NAREIT Global Real-estate Index is maintained under the guidance of ground rules approved by the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trustsâ (NAREIT) and is calculated on a daily basis by Euronext Indices BV.
