Energy And Crude Oil Futures Lead Nymex To Monthly Overnight Trading Records During March

The New York Mercantile Exchange set after-hours trading records in March, propelled by new highs in overnight energy and crude oil volume.

A record 631,366 futures contracts were traded on the NYMEX ACCESS® electronic trading system, breaking the previous monthly record of 570,568 contracts set in January.

Total NYMEX Division trading on NYMEX ACCESS® was 558,817 contracts, surpassing the previous record of 490,613 contracts set in April 2002.

Overnight energy futures trading was a record 558,183 contracts, topping the previous record of 489,954 contracts set in April 2002.

After-hours trading in light, sweet crude oil futures totaled 428,444 contracts, breaking the previous record of 340,382 contracts set in April 2002.

Exchange President J. Robert Collins, Jr., said, "Overnight futures trading activity on NYMEX ACCESS® is 63% higher year-to-date, along with a 17% increase in overall Exchange futures and options volume, continuing the extraordinary growth in Exchange activity seen in 2002. This does not include the growing number of off-Exchange trades posted to the NYMEX ClearPortsm platform."
