E-Mini S&P 500 Futures Set New Volume Mark

E-Mini S&P 500 futures traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's GLOBEX®2 electronic trading system set a new volume record yesterday at 77,208.
The previous single-day volume record for E-Mini S&P futures stood at 75,797 contracts on October 14, 1999.
Year-to-date average daily volume has increased more than 48 percent over 1999 levels, reaching 64,226 compared to 43,295 on an average day last year.
E-Mini S&P 500 futures were launched in September 1997 and are sized at $50 times the S&P 500 Stock Price Index or one-fifth of the CME's standard-size S&P 500 futures contract which have traded on the exchange since 1982.
E-mini S&P 500 futures trade virtually around-the-clock, from 3:30 p.m (Chicago time) each day until 3:15 p.m the following day. On Sundays, trading begins at 5:30 p.m.
