E-mini Nasdaq 100 futures began its current run of new open interest highs on May 30, when 27,355 contracts stood open at the close of trading. Open interest in the Nasdaq product first surpassed 30,000 on Wednesday, June 7, with 30,741 open contracts.
E-mini S&P 500 futures stood at the 40,000 level as recently as May 15, when a record 40,964 positions were open.

Both E-mini equity index contracts are traded electronically on the CME's GLOBEX®2 trading system and are smaller-sized versions of contracts traded actively via open outcry on the exchange's trading floor. Trading hours are virtually around the clock from 3:45 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. the following day.
