E-Mini Nasdaq 100 Futures Sets Single-Day Volume Record As E-Mini S&P 500 Notches Record Open Interest

Volume of trading in E-mini Nasdaq 100 Index® futures at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) set a new single-day record Thursday September 16 of 6,026 as open interest in E-mini S&P 500 futures reached record levels of 32,690.
The previous volume record for E-mini Nasdaq 100 futures stood at 5,955 set on August 10.
The previous open interest record in S&P 500 futures was set on August 23 at 31,515 positions. Also on Thursday, Sept.17, volume of trading in E-mini S&P 500 futures totaled 67,697 contracts-marking the second busiest day in the history of the contract, launched in September 1997. On August 10, a record 67,980 contracts were traded.
The CME's E-mini S&P 500 E-mini Nasdaq 100 contracts are one-fifth sized versions contracts also traded on the CME. Both E-mini contracts trade electronically on the Merc's GLOBEX®2 system virtually 24 hours per day, from 3:45 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. the following day.
