Dr. Mohamed Farid, Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), participated in the first forum of heads of African investment commissions “Integration for Growth” held in Sharm el-Sheikh, 11-13 June 2021.
The forum was inaugurated by Dr. Mustafa Madbouli, the Egyptian Prime Minister and with the participation of a number of ministers, heads of African investment entities representing 33 African countries, representatives of international and African economic institutions, Secretary-General, AfCFTA Secretariat - AfCFTA - African Continental Free Trade Area, Director of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy at the African Union Commission (AUC), representative of African Development Bank (AfDB) and Afreximbank.
During his participation in a session entitled "Encouraging investments across African borders through a unified agenda and initiatives within the continent," Dr. Mohamed Farid, Executive Chairman of EGX, said that strengthening inter-African investments is a current necessity. He added “Inter-African securities trading requires integration between exchanges and brokerage firms through electronic linking that allow flow of investments and trading in an ecosystem that meets the requirements of all investors which in turn will boost liquidity and trading between African Exchanges”.
He explained that the Egyptian Exchange is participating in an African Linkage project to connect African exchanges and their brokerage firms, which aims to enable any African investor to invest in any several on the African continent.
