As part of The Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX) plan of capacity building for listed companies, an Investor Relations program was conducted by the Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA) and with collaboration of the Arab Federation for Capital Markets (AFCM).
The training program was tailored to facilitate investor relations managers’ knowledge of the best practices and strategies required to perform their role efficiently. As the role of the investor relations officer is of vital importance at any listed company for its expansion & growth, the training program will provide the trainees with the required skills that are in line with the best practices worldwide to put a company on its right.
The training program tackled subjects of importance to IRs includes a clear definition of international best practices for the role of a manager and investor relations management, IR’s work model, as well as indicators for measuring IR performance to ensure continuity of work and sustainable development. The program also provided trainees with practical models and work cases to train them in a practical way to deal and respond professionally with all developments that they may encounter during work.
During his speech, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange, said that building and developing the Capabilities of the Listed Companies' Investor Relations Officers in the various sectors make up the securities industry is an integral part of the stock exchange management’s work strategy, in accordance with the best international practices that are commensurate with and the nature of the Egyptian economy, which would enable workers to build work models that would develop their performance and improve the reality of the Egyptian financial market in a sustainable manner.
He added that investor relations managers play a pivotal role in the development of listed companies, through creating work models, targets and indicators to measure performance and enhance communication with related parties. Investor Relations position importance extends to the role it plays in communicating their companies’ information to the market, organizing periodic meetings with investors as well as research departments providing research coverage.
Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Executive Chairman of EGX, said that it is about time for investor relations of listed companies to evolve to work according to their company’s objectives and proactively by studying the requirements of different investment funds and formulating messages to meet their needs. The company’s vision and growth plans, especially through capital market, should help listed companies’ development plans to enhance liquidity and activate the Egyptian market’s trading.
John Gollifer, General Manager, Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA), acknowledged EGX’s focused efforts for the development of IRs role as the first line communication and marketing tool for any listed company to familiarize them with the company's work developments and to promote the investment pools.
He added that the training program has been carefully designed to suit requirements of IRs of the Egyptian capital market and present best international practices. Our main goal is to transfer international expertise to the Egyptian market, to help them achieve sustainable development and growth plans.
The program was attended by about 50 listed companies from various sectors of the Egyptian market.
