Mr. Rami El-Dokkany, Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), contributed in the International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF 2022) in its second edition held in Cairo from 7th to 9th September 2022, in preparations of the COP27 Conference, to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh next November.
Rami El-Dokany participated as a speaker in the session entitled “Landscape of Climate Finance in Africa”, discussing the current situation on the African continent to finance projects, and their economic returns, to achieve climate balance and reduce carbon emissions. El-Dokkany said that EGX is the first market in the region and the second internationally to launch a sustainability index S&P/EGX ESG index.
El-Dokkany stressed the persistence of EGX for IR capacity building, especially in sustainability, to develop tools and mechanisms of communication with investors that affect sustainability indicators and efforts in their investment decisions.
He explained EGX’s keenness to continue its activities towards the efficiency and depth of the capital market by diversifying investment options- especially those with a social and environmental impact - in front of all types of investors.
He pointed out that the carbon platform which is currently being developed by EGX, will make Egypt a strategic center for all African projects from various economic sectors aimed at achieving economic returns from plans and efforts to reduce carbon emissions and commitment to the practices and goals of sustainable development.
EGX’s Chairman stressed the necessity to focus on the improvement of the quality of data announced on projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions, pointing out that the limited data available on this type of projects on the African continent affects the potential of those projects to obtain appropriate funding.
