EEX Trading Volume And New Admissions In October

In October 2004, the European Energy Exchange saw a total turnover of 33.2 TWh. Of that amount, 5.596.246 MWh were traded on the Spot Market.

27.6 TWh were traded on the Derivatives Market. Of that amount, 22.1 TWh were traded in yearly contracts, 3.8 TWh in quarterly contracts and 1.7 TWh in monthly con-tracts. The Futures Market´s volume includes 17.9 TWh from OTC Clearing. The Open Interest on 29 October 2004 was 119.0 TWh.

124 companies from 16 countries are active at the European Energy Exchange. With Ezpada s.r.o., Prague, the first participant from the Czech Republic was granted a licence to trade on the Spot and Derivatives Market in October. REWAG Regensburger Energie- und Wasserversorgung AG & Co. KG and Danske Commodities A/S, Aarhus, Dänemark, have started trading on the exchange's Spot Market in October. KOM-STROM AG, Leipzig, has been also trading on the Derivatives Market since October. BNP Paribas Commodity Futures Ltd., London, is a General Clearing Member at EEX and at the same time admitted to the Derivatives Market.

Together with the licenses granted in October, the number of trading participants on the Spot Market of EEX increased to 111. Currently, 51 companies are trading on the Derivatives Market.
