EEX Trading Results In March - More Than 1 Million Tons CO2 Traded In March

In March 2006, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) saw a record turnover of 1.082.416 EU Allowances in total. Of this amount 927,416 EU Al-lowances were traded on the EEX Spot Market. The settlement prices ranged between 26.10 Euro/EUA and 26.75 Euro/EUA.

On the EEX Derivatives Market for EU Allowances, launched October 4, 2005, the vol-ume traded was 155,000 EU Allowances. On March 31, 2006 the price for the year 2006 contract was determined at 27.31 Euro/EUA, the price for the year 2008 contract was 26.82 Euro/EUA.

In March 2006, the EEX saw a total volume in electricity trading of 76,0 TWh. Of this amount, 7,211,826 MWh were traded on the electricity Spot Market. The monthly aver-age of base load (Phelix Base Month) was 61.55 Euro/MWh and the monthly average of peak load (Phelix Peak Month) was 80.77 Euro/MWh.

In March the volume in electricity derivatives amounted to 68.8 TWh. The Derivatives Market“s volume includes 43.3 TWh from OTC Clearing. On March 31, 2006 the Open Interest was 188.0 TWh. On March 31, 2006 the price for base load in Germany for the year 2007 was determined at 57.39 Euro/MWh and for peak load in Germany for the year 2007 at 80.57 Euro/MWh.

138 companies from 17 countries are active at the European Energy Exchange. Kopex SA from Poland was admitted to the Spot Market. GFI Securities Limited, Great Britain and Spectron Energy Services Ltd., Great Britain were admitted to the Derivatives Market in March.
