In June 2016, the monthly volume on EEX’s power derivatives market amounted to 374.7 terawatt hours (TWh), more than doubling the volume achieved in June 2015 (184.0 TWh). EEX recorded increased volumes in German (+106%), French (+65%) and Italian (+40%) power futures and in particular in Spanish power futures where trading volumes increased more than five-fold compared to June 2015. In power options, EEX registered the highest monthly volume of 2016 so far.
The June volumes comprised 203.5 TWh registered at EEX for clearing. Clearing and settlement of all transactions was executed by European Commodity Clearing (ECC).
Emission Allowances
On the EEX Market for emission allowances, a total volume of 84.8 million tonnes of CO2 was traded in June, representing a year-on-year increase of 57% (June 2015: 54.2 million tonnes of CO2). Primary market auctions contributed 62.9 million tonnes of CO2 to the total volume while the volumes on the secondary market increased more than six-fold to 21.7 million tonnes of CO2.
Agricultural Products
In June, a total of 4,389 contracts were traded in agricultural products at EEX (June 2015: 9,170 contracts). This volume included 3,095 contracts (equal to 77,375 tonnes) from European processing potatoes, 1,293 contracts (equal to 6,465 tonnes) from dairy products and 1 contract (equal to 8 tonnes) from livestock & meat.
Global Commodities
In June, EEX registered further volumes in freight futures. In total, 295 contracts were registed for clearing in the product Capesize TC5 Time Charter as well as in Supramax and Panamax freight contracts.
New Participants
During the month, EEX admitted EP Commodities, a.s., Prague, ERG POWER GENERATION S.P.A., Genoa, GREEN TRADE S.R.L., Genoa, Vattenfall AB, Solna (Sweden), and Repsol Trading S.A., Madrid, as new trading participants. Markedskraft ASA, Arendal (Norway), extended its admission to the Derivatives Market. Additionally, EEX recognised BRS Futures Limited, London, and Clarksons Platou Futures Limited, London, as new Non Trading Brokers.
