EEX Trading Results And New Admissions In March 2007

Electricity trading volume on the European Energy Exchange (EEX) in March 2007 totalled 122.5 TWh, compared with 76.0 TWh in March 2006.

This includes 10,714,911 MWh (March 2006: 7,211,826 MWh) traded on the electricity Spot Market, where the average base load price (Phelix Base Month) for the month was 25.91 Euro/MWh and the peak load price (Phelix Peak Month) 32.57 Euro/MWh.

Intraday volume in March 2007 was 59,942 MWh.

On the Swiss electricity Spot Market, where trading began on December 12, 2006, March volume was 333,559 MWh.

Trading volume in electricity derivatives in March 2007 totalled 111.8 TWh (March 2006: 68.8 TWh). This includes 97.5 TWh from OTC clearing. The Open Interest at 30 March 2007 was 296 TWh. The 2008 base load price for German electricity was fixed at 54.45 Euro/MWh on 30 March 2007 and the 2008 peak load price at 79.58 Euro/MWh.

A total of 388,701 EU Allowances (EUA) were traded on the Spot Market in March, compared with 927,416 EUAs in March 2006. During the month, the Carbix (Carbon Index) ranged between 0.84 Euro/EUA and 1.30 Euro/EUA.

Volume on the EEX Derivatives Market was 385,000 EUAs (155,000 EUAs March 2006). The 2007 contract was fixed at 1.30 Euro/EUA on 28 March 2007, and the 2008 contract at 17.45 Euro/EUA.

Coal Futures volume from OTC clearing was 15,000 tonnes in March 2007. The Open Interest amounted to 1,374,000 tonnes.

EEX now has 162 member companies from 19 countries. VW Kraftwerk GmbH was admitted to the Spot Market in March.
