The European Energy Exchange (EEX) will introduce a new natural gas spot trading system, under the name M7G, subject to approval from the Exchange Council. The M7G system will replace the current solution, with the switch planned for the second half of 2027. The implementation of the new system is already under way with a testing phase involving multiple front-end vendors.
M7G is the latest addition to the well-established M7 trading system product family, specifically tailored to meet the needs of 24/7 trading on the natural gas spot markets. It will bring not only increased performance, coupled with low latency, but also improved functionality, such as auto-matching.
In addition, the open API setup will allow seamless connection for all external third parties.
Peter Reitz, CEO of EEX, comments: “The EEX natural gas spot markets are one of our core pillars, therefore it’s imperative for us to provide the best customer experience possible. With the new M7G system, the gas spot trading community will enjoy improved connectivity as well as wider range of functionalities at a significantly faster speed. We are closely working with vendors and the wider trading community to make the transition as smooth as possible.”
Several front-end vendors, including Trading Technologies, Trayport and E*star, are already participating in the testing phase to offer connection to the new system, with the vendor pool expected to expand significantly.
EEX is Europe‘s largest natural gas spot exchange with volumes this year reached 3,883 TWh by end of May, representing a 10% growth year on year.
