EEX Sets New Record On Monthly Basis - 529,785 MWh Traded In January

EEX, the European Energy Exchange, published its turnover figures for the month of January on Wednesday: With 529,785 megawatt hours (MWh) traded, EEX reported a new monthly trading record which topped the previous record of November 2000 (466.443 MWh). After six months of operation, total turnover at EEX amounts to some 2.4 million MWh.

Of the total volume traded in January, 105,465 MWh were traded in individual hours and 424,320 MWh in blocks, 183,312 MWh in peak-load blocks and 241,008 MWh in base-load blocks.

The prices for peak-load blocks amounted to 30.74 euros per MWh on average for the month, and ranged between 15.50 and 37.75 euros per MWh. In trading of base-load blocks, the monthly average price was 24.49 euros per MWh, with prices ranging between 14.25 euros per MWh and 31.75 euros per MWh. In trading of individual hours, the daily average prices ranged between 16.37 and 30.11 euros per MWh.
